The Nevada Afterschool Network is celebrating Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week, along with the National AfterSchool Association to recognize, appreciate and advocate for those who work with young people during out-of-school hours.
In celebration of Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week (April 21–25, 2025), we are proud to highlight the amazing individuals who support Nevada’s youth through before school, afterschool, and school break programs. Check out the nominees below and help us honor their passion and impact!
Tech Trekker is a team of faculty and students from UNLV in different fields ranging from engineering to education who are dedicated to providing cutting-edge technology to students of the Las Vegas community. Their purpose is to increase student exposure to and engagement in modern science and engineering tools to encourage students into high-demand STEM fields.
Check out 21st CCLC Bruner Elementary School’s Afterschool Program at their Family Engagement Event. Parents and family members of Club participants come together to view Exhibits and performances of our best projects. Their community partner, the Discovery Children’s Museum, was a Guest Speaker and did an educational presentation, “Super Cold Science” using liquid nitrogen, to create an indoor cloud. It was an exciting and “chilling” experience as the cloud traveled to the audience experiencing the coolness of the nitrogen!
The Mathnasium program equips students with the mathematical skills and confidence needed to excel in STEM disciplines. By offering personalized instruction, fostering problem-solving abilities, and emphasizing real-world applications of math, Mathnasium helps students build a strong foundation for success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Yenni and Yehri joined Mathnasium at different starting points: Yehri had mastered only 39% of Kindergarten-level math, while Yenni started with no formal math experience. However, both sisters have made remarkable progress and embraced their learning journey.
Fallon Youth Club hosted their end of the year student showcase! Students were able to share their STEM-based, literary-based, and life skills-based projects with family and friends. NAN staff showed their support and celebrated the wonderful work that the FYC students and staff have put into their afterschool activities this year!
